Add spaces (separators) to Dock in Mac OS X

This guide will show you how to add spaces (separators) to your Dock in Mac OS X.

Example: You may have a Dock full of icons, and want to separate them logically.

Resolution: Go to Finder > Applications and open Terminal. To add a space to your Dock, type in the following commands:

To Add:
defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add ‘{tile-data={}; tile-type=”spacer-tile”;}’
killall Dock

To Remove:
To remove one from the Dock, just drag it out, like a normal icon, and it will disappear.

You can also download the following Automator script that does the above for you.
