“Windows cannot find ‘path name’. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again.”

This is a weird one. The user was trying to open a .DOCX file but it said “Windows cannot find ‘path name’. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again”. .DOC files were opening fine, however. There doesn’t seem to be one be-all-and-end-all fix for this, but I’ll share with you the one that worked for me.

Example: “Why can’t I open this document? It asks me to save it…”

Resolution: All I did was go to Windows Explorer and hit Tools > Folder Options > File Types. Scroll down until you see the desired file type, select it and hit Delete. I then went to where I had a .DOCX saved, I right-clicked it went to Properties > Change and selected Microsoft Office Word.
